Dell Swarm?

12 May 2009 No Comment

So I’m over at the Dell Swarm page, courtesy of a Facebook status message telling me that I should check it out, and what’s the first thing I see?

A live Twitter feed of which the top two tweets are probably not what the folks over at Dell would be too particularly enamored about.

Never mind that there is something seemingly a Mac about the whole look of the site, nor the fact that it feels intuitively very Web 1.0 but trying to be Web 2.0/3.0. Never mind that the most important What is Dell Swam? sentence is hidden somewhere way below the page, instead of being the first thing they should have told me.

So, in a small font compared to that puzzling time bomb ticker that is currently occupying center stage(which won’t make sense until you know what the page is about)…here is the lowdown:

Simply join Dell Swarm to buy a Dell laptop in a group, whether it’s with your friends or the ones you haven’t met yet. As the number of buyers in each Swarm goes up, the final price you’ll pay goes down!”

Come to think of it, now that I have a clearer look, isn’t that simply just another take on the good ole economies of scale model?
Dell sells more units to customers, can offer you a lower price!

However, props to them I suppose for trying to put the element of fun into a new spin of things, but I’ll have to say I’m a little undecided about this whole site

And more about their ‘live’ Twitter feed though, I hadn’t even finished typing this post and I’m on their freaking Twitter feed for posting these shots above to my Flickr! A little creepy in a stalkerish kind of way, but still, at least we know someone is listening watching. But…not from them?

And…I suppose honesty is much better than screening out the negative comments. Maybe someone else will get a better first impression of the site. :)
