Twitter-ing Trails

I have to admit I watched somewhat hypnotized as the Twitter elections feed rolled on a couple of months ago. Most feeds are nowhere near as active as that, and therefore seem less “alive”. There’s so much potential for this tool though, and we’re probably only beginning to see how Twitter will eventually become more mainstream. Instinctual? Possibly.
On a whim, I decided to go on a little crash course journey on Twitter…
Day 1:
- Exploring the Alltop Twitter maze of infomation. Alltop is the new wikipedia?
- In the morning, signed up for Socialtoo.
Thought it was the coolest thing ever. Automated welcome messages (and follows) to those who follow your Twitter timeline!
In the afternoon, begin to feel a bit smarmy about the automated messages (kind of like a spam machine). Is that the first gift you want to give your Twitter followers?
Not interested in automated follows since there has been a lot of spam adds recently.

By evening, sign off the automated function. Might, or might not turn it back on again in future.
- Decide that this is useful actionable advice.
Day 2:
- Find different websites that grouped the topTwitter users to watch out for in various genres.
- Changed my Twitter background to explore what could be done. This is nowhere near the final and is currently just a little illustration I did over this summer.
- Signed up for Qwitter (so I will know if I ever annoy anyone so badly they took the time to unfollow me <!>)
Day 3:
Christmas Day
- Eat. A lot. Visit Grandma’s.
Day 4:
- Inevitably start reading about the other social media happenings on the web. And move on.
Day (I lost count):
- Blog about it.
- Tweet about blog post. Because it would be incongruent not to.

Glad you liked SocialToo – just FYI, if you enable the nightly e-mails, you don’t need Qwitter any more. We provide both a list of followers and unfollows throughout the day in a single e-mail. Let me know if you have any further suggestions though. –Jesse Stay, CEO, SocialToo.com
Thanks for dropping by and the tip, Jesse. Will check that out!
