Flock // I miss freedom of thought // singabore.

5 November 2007 2 Comments

I am currently rather *insert choice word here* about the fact that I seem to have never ending administrative paper work to do, and on top of that I now apparently need to get some jabs before I can escape. the horrors!!!

not to mention the esssayssssss

Flock.

but on a happier note, the dudes at http://www.flock.com/ seem to have an interesting thing going on, so check them out and show some love!

I would try it, but I really should be spending my time on more “useful”( as probably defined by others, really) stuff. Like essay writing. or something.

singabore.

If anything, School ( of course I am being responsible and not mentioning names here, but the more astute amongst you can find that out easily. in like, 5 seconds or less) should have made me smarter. I think in some aspects it has. Combining sarcarsm with actual substantial facts is a lethal weapon that’s fun to use, but results in far too many casualties. In actual fact, I miss the freedom of thought that I enjoyed in Australia. Maybe they have got something going by closing all the damn shops at 5pm. It forces you to explore, to find other things to do. Time to think – what a wonderful luxury that has been stolen away. It is, Is it human nature to feel slighted when something is taken away from you?

Does that make you worry about the MIDNIGHT/ 24 hour shopping in Singapore? I hardly meet anybody interesting nowadays. Everyone’s thoughts revolves around school and work. Its a self perpetuating vicious cycle. Your master identity is your occupation, even what you choose to study. So, what if I was a the damn lousiest doctor or lawyer, or banker on the block? Unless I was really at rock bottom, apparently that would place me in an aspirational position. where I lead an aspirational life of working close to 24 hour days so the shops have to open for me at midnight when I finally get off to spend the moolah I have accumulated during the day. fun! Then you also laugh at the poor sod who own so little and chases his dreams. Dreams? you laugh. What a quaint idea- reality and practicality is where its at, my friend. You won’t be able to understand – at least not until your liver gives way from all the drinks and beer, and the rich foods so high in saturated fats get the better of your arteries. only then, only then will you realize that contrary to what all of Reality has been telling you – you are MORTAL.

I steal time nonetheless to indulge in freewheeling thoughts. no, nowadays they don’t really constitute whimsical stories or dreams, now that reality has entered into the picture. Nowadays they are a curious juxtaposition of life as it is, life as it could be. Perhaps as life as it would never be.

Freedom of thought is only limited by one’s self. Not by anything external. Unless we live among “scanners” (<<early 80s movie reference), we should be free as much as we want to think.

I wish I could say that breaking away from the mental and physical infrastructures that bind us all was that easy! hur hur. It is true what you say though – no brainwashing is more successful when the mere thought of sanctions causes you to self censor your thoughts and actions.
